Lucien Ernest Solak, 77, of Beaumont Drive died Thursday morning at Hillcrest Commons, where he had resided since April 17.
Born in Pittsfield on Sept. 24, 1928, son of Joseph and Pauline Laveecka Solak, he was a graduate of Pittsfield High School and also graduated from the General Electric Co. Apprentice Draftsman program.
An Army veteran of the Korean War, he served from January 1952 to March 1953.
Mr. Solak was employed by General Electric Co. for 43 years, retiring as a senior designer in 1989.
He was a member of South Congregational Church.
He was also a member of the General Electric Quarter Century and Pensioners Clubs, and was a member of the American Legion.
He and his wife, the former Barbara Ann Breen, were married June 23, 1951. She died Nov. 7, 2005.
He leaves two daughters, Pamela J. Desautels of Pittsfield and Marcia L. Darrin of Cary, N.C.; two sons, Mark P. Solak of North Adams, and Bert L. Solak of Pittsfield; three sisters, Wand Solak of Pittsfield, Edna Zanies of Pittsfield, and Lilac Hobos of San Jose, Calif.; a brother, Joseph Solak of Pittsburgh; nine grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Lucien Ernest Solak, who died Thursday, July 6, 2006, will be Saturday, July 8, at 10 a.m. from DERY FUNERAL HOME, with the Rev. Joel Bennington, pastor of South Congregational Church officiating.
Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be today, from 4 to 7. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Solak may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires or to the American Heart Association in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
Mr. Solak leaves nine grandchildren, Michael, Heather, Scott, Holly, Darren, Brittany, Annah, David and Olivia, and his two great-grandchildren, Matthew and Connor.
