Raymond "Chester" Wisner Jr., 85, of 15 Day St., a former longtime resident of Dalton, died Saturday at Hillcrest Commons, where he had resided since August 2004.
Born in Easthampton on Feb. 5, 1921, son of Raymond C. Wisner Sr. and Prudence Campbell Wisner, he was educated in Worthington and Easthampton and attended the former Dalton High School.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War, serving as an aviation radioman.
Mr. Wisner was employed by General Electric Co. for 33 years as an electronics technician, retiring in 1983. Before that, he was a carpenter.
He was a member of Christian Assembly Church, Berkshire Radio Club in Dalton, the Antique Wireless Association and the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners' clubs. A radio collector, he also enjoyed electronics, traveling, playing the guitar and fishing.
He and his wife, the former Marie L. Petersen, were married Jan. 28, 1945, in Rutherford, N.J.
Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Keith R. Wisner of Hinsdale and Douglas C. Wisner of Pittsfield; a sister, Claire Higgins of Redding, Calif., and three grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Raymond "Chester" Wisner Jr., who died Saturday, July 8, 2006, will be conducted Thursday at 10 at Christian Assembly Church in Pittsfield by the Rev. Joseph Nieves, pastor.
Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 at DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
Mr. Wisner also leaves three grandchildren, Justin, Jared and Raelyn Wisner. Memorial donations in his memory may be made to the Christian Assembly Church Building Fund or to HospiceCare in the Berkshires, both in care of the funeral home. An outdoorsman, Mr. Wisner enjoyed hiking and motorcycle riding with his wife, Marie.
