Joseph J. "Ooper" Miraglia

Joseph J. "Ooper" Miraglia, 74, of 66 Ontario St. died Tuesday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Pittsfield on Jan. 9, 1932, son of John and Grace McNamara Miraglia, he was a lifelong resident of Pittsfield and a 1950 graduate of St. Joseph's High School.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, serving as a sergeant.
Mr. Miraglia was a self-employed master carpenter and had worked for various contractors, including Allegrone Construction, Goodrich Cabinet Shop and Taconic Lumber in Great Barrington. He was a master carpenter for more than 50 years and spent many hours in his workshop making furniture for family and friends. He retired in 1998.
He was a baseball fan and played on many teams in his youth. He was a member of the 1950 Dalton Esso National Baseball Team. The team competed in the 18-and-under national championships in Dayton, Ohio, and finished in second place. In addition, he played for the Brass Rail, and the American Legion All Star Team.
He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, and a member of Dalton American Legion Post 155.
He and his wife, the former Mary E. McClure, were married April 14, 1956, in Sacred Heart Church.
Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, Joseph J. Miraglia of Ashfield, Daniel T. Miraglia of Pittsfield and John A. Miraglia of San Jose, Calif.; a brother, James Miraglia of Pittsfield; two sisters, Grace Briggs and Gertrude Miraglia, both of Pittsfield, and two grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Joseph "Ooper" Miraglia, who died on Tuesday, July 18, 2006, was a loving grandfather to Leif Miraglia and Avery Miraglia. Uncle to Gloria Greaves and father-in-law to Claire Miraglia.
Funeral services with be Saturday, July 22, at 8 a.m. from DWYER FUNERAL HOME with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be at the funeral home on Friday, July 21, from 4 to 7. If friends desire, donations may be made to HospiceCare in The Berkshires or to St. Joseph's High School Scholarship Fund, care of the funeral home, 776 North St., Pittsfield MA 01201, in his memory.
