Lillian G. MacWhinnie

Lillian G. MacWhinnie, 96, former resident of Second Street, died Wednesday at the home of her son in Bentley Creek, Pa.

Born in Springfield on May 7, 1910, daughter of Otto and Alexina Sawyer Boedeker, she was educated in Pittsfield schools.

She was a resident of Lanesborough from 1940 until moving to Pittsfield in 1955.

She was active in many community organizations, including the Girl Scouts in Pittsfield and Lanesborough and the Auxiliary of Hillcrest Hospital.

She was a member of the Pilgrim Memorial Church, the Mother's Club of the church, and a founding member of the Heart of the Berkshire Grange, where she was a leader and officer for many years.

She and her husband, David MacWhinnie, were married March 17, 1928. He died June 24, 1992.

She leaves four sons, Ronald B. MacWhinnie of Bentley Creek, Pa., Raymond O. MacWhinnie and Roderick MacWhinnie, both of Pittsfield, and Daniel K. MacWhinnie of Lanesborough; two daughters, L. Barbara Wall of San Mateo, Calif., and Joan C. Matson of Ocala, Fla.; 29 grandchildren, 54 great-grand-children, and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

Another son, Robert D. MacWhinnie, of Henrietta, N.Y., died in November 1982.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Mrs. Lillian G. MacWhinnie, who died Wednesday, July 19, 2006, will be held at WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 220 East St., Pittsfield, 01201, on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. William D. Furey officiating. Following cremation, burial will be in the Pittsfield Cemetery.

Calling hours will be todayfrom 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of lowers, donations may be made to Guthrie Hospice, R.D. No. 1, Box 154, Tomahawk Road, Towanda, PA 18848, in Mrs. MacWhnnie's memory. She also leaves four daughters-in-law, Patricia MacWhinnie and Joyce MacWhinnie, both of Pittsfield, Sherida MacWhinnie of Bentley Creek, Pa., and Linda MacWhinnie of Lanesborough.

Mrs. MacWhinnie and her husband David loved traveling the roads of the United States. Together they visited 49 of the 50 states, stopping at Grange Halls throughout the country. She took great pleasure in sending cards and personal notes for every occasion to all family members and friends and was proud that she never forgot a birthday. Mrs. MacWhinnie treasured her large family as much as her family treasured her. Welcoming a new baby into the family was her greatest joy. She will be missed.
