Thomas J. Henry, 79, of Milton died Monday at home after a short illness. He was the father of Thomas J. Henry of Pittsfield.
Born in Boston on Jan 25, 1922, son of Thomas J. and Ellen Leonard Henry, he was a 1939 graduate of Dorchester High School.
He served in the Army during World War II.
He was a firefighter for the city of Boston for 35 years, retiring in 1986. After retirement, he began a landscaping business.
Mr. Henry was a member of Local 718 and a late member of the Boston Fire Department Ladder Co. He enjoyed singing and was an Irish tenor.
Besides his son of Pittsfield, he leaves his wife of 59 years, the former Mary M. Connolly, whom he married June 27, 1941; another son, Michael G. Henry of North Andover, and six grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held at DOLAN FUNERAL HOME, 460 Granite Ave., Milton, on Thursday from 3 to 7. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held Friday at 11 at St. Agatha Church, Milton, with burial in Milton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made to Old Colony Hospice, 14 Page St., Stoughton, MA 02072.
