Joanna A. Farrell, 78, of 56D Highview Drive, died Monday evening at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.
Born in Pittsfield on June 24, 1928, daughter of Raffaele and Marianna D'Agostino Sacco, she attended local schools and was a 1946 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
She was a Junior Air Raid Warden during World War II.
Mrs. Farrell was most recently employed by the former Steiger's Department Store at the Berkshire Mall in Lanesborough. Previously, she worked for many years at the former Besse Clarke and England Brothers stores. She also worked for a time as a teacher's aide at the former West Side Community School.
Mrs. Farrell was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church.
She enjoyed sewing, bowling and reading.
She and her husband, the late John W. "Radar" Farrell, were married July 27, 1957. He died in November 1968.
She leaves two daughters, Cynthia Gillis of Long Beach, Calif., and Janice Barry of Pittsfield; four brothers, Dominic Sacco and Joseph Sacco, both of Safety Harbor, Fla., Francis Sacco of Sun City, Ariz., and Anthony Sacco of Bethel, Conn.; a sister, Virginia Sacco of Pittsfield; and two grandsons.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Joanna A. Farrell, 78, who died July 24, 2006, will be held at 10:15 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 7, 2006, from DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church celebrated by Rev. James K. Joyce, pastor.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, donations in her memory may be made to the Sacred Heart Spiritual Society in care of the funeral home.
She is also survived by her grandsons, John and Harrison Gillis, and two sons-in-law, John Barry and Hal Gillis. She was predeceased by a brother, Michael Sacco, and two sisters, Mary Casino and Rose Sachetti.
