Donald C. Petell, 91, of 37 Lakeway Drive died Friday at Springside Health Care Facility of Pittsfield, where he had resided for the past week.
Born in Pittsfield on April 21, 1915, son of Charles and Margaret Gallipeau Petell, he was a 1934 graduate of Pittsfield High School and a graduate of the former Berkshire Business College.
Mr. Petell was employed by General Electric Co. as a maintenance electrician in the power transformer department, retiring in 1980 with 45 years of service.
He attended Cornerstone Baptist Church and was a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners' clubs and of the Pittsfield Radio Club.
He enjoyed reading, wood carving, model railroads and growing orchids. He also was a ham radio operator.
He and his wife, the former Ritamarie Provost, would have celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary Sept. 25.
Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Mark R. Petell of Lee; a daughter, Christine M. Petell, at home; four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Mr. Donald C. Petell died Friday, July 28, 2006, in Pittsfield. Beloved grandfather to Patricia Vietri, Barbara and Holly Petell, and Naomi Rhoads, and father-in-law to Terry Petell. The funeral will be conducted tomorrow, Aug. 1, at 11 at Dwyer Funeral Home by the Rev. Douglas B. Neiner, pastor of Cornerstone Baptist Church.
Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be tomorrow from 9 until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cornerstone Baptist Church in care of the funeral home, 776 North St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
