Lawrence Edward Bowerman

Lawrence Edward Bowerman, 80, of 366 Elm St. died yesterday at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born in Pittsfield on July 1, 1926, son of Winthrop H. and Esther Corkhill Bowerman, he was a 1944 graduate of Pittsfield High School.

An Army veteran of World War II, he served with the Military Police Signal Corps, 69th Battalion, 273rd Infantry Regiment, from Aug. 26, 1944, to June 29, 1946. He participated in the Battles of the Bulge, the Rhine and Leipzig. He was awarded several campaign medals.

Mr. Bowerman was a special services lineman with the former New England Telephone Co., where he also served as union steward. He retired in 1998 with 36 years of service.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church and former president of both the Telephone Pioneers and the Italian-American Club.

He was also a member of the Lakewood Sportsmen's Club and a former Little League coach. He enjoyed hunting, fly-fishing and playing golf.

He and his wife, the former Angela Conte, would have celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary Sept. 26.

Besides his wife, he leaves a son, David Bowerman of Charlottesville, Va.; a daughter, Lauren Bowerman of Burlington, Vt.; a sister, Marjorie Murray of West Hartford, Conn., and three grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Lawrence Edward Bowerman, who died Aug. 7, 2006, will be conducted tomorrow, Aug. 9, at noon at DERY FUNERAL HOME by the Rev. Dr. Luis E. Benevides, pastor of First United Methodist Church.

Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be today from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Bowerman may be made to the Berkshire Visiting Nurse Association in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.

Mr. Bowerman also leaves a son-in-law, Barry Comeau; his daughter-in-law, Janice Bowerman, and his three grandchildren, Phillip and Drew Comeau, and Lindsay Bowerman.
