Eleanor M. Medler

Eleanor M. Medler, 96, former longtime resident of Deborah Avenue, died yesterday at Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility, where she had resided for seven years.
Born in Schenectady, N.Y., on March 15, 1910, daughter of Walter and Mary Kjlusek Chase, she attended schools there and graduated from Schenectady High School.
Prior to moving to Pittsfield in 1959, she was employed by General Electric Co. as a librarian at their library in Schenectady. A Polish language translator, she helped immigrant families earn their citizenship and conduct their personal business.
Mrs. Medler was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church. She was a bridge player, and enjoyed gardening and sewing.
She and her husband, William Medler, were married Aug. 16, 1930. He died Jan. 11, 1967.
She leaves two sons, William J. Medler of Miami, Fla., and David P. Medler of Scotia, N.Y.; a daughter, Patricia E. Phair of Pittsfield; a sister, Constance McLaughlin of Winter Springs, Fla.; seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Eleanor M. Medler, who died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2006, will be at a date and time to be announced. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
Calling hours will be on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, 40 Maplewood Ave., Pittsfield, MA 01201. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, donations in her memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association in care of the funeral home.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Vickie, Janeen, Douglas, Maureen, Brendan, Jennifer and Matthew, and her great-grandchildren, Alexa, Connor, Matthew, Nicholas, Thomas, William and Dylan.
