Mary Jane Williams

Mary Jane Williams, 88, of Elberon Avenue died Wednesday, Aug. 2, at Springside of Pittsfield, where she had resided for a short time.

Born in Toronto on March 4, 1918, daughter of John and Elizabeth Mannion Connors, she was educated in schools there before coming to Pittsfield as a child.

She was a 1936 graduate of St. Joseph's High School.

She was employed as assistant manager at the former Ida & John's Restaurant on Route 20 in Hancock, which was owned by her brother and sister-in-law. She worked there and at the restaurant's Lenox location for 32 years prior to her retirement. Previously, she was employed for 13 years as a production control clerk at General Electric Co. in the fluorescent capacitors department.

She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church and enjoyed cooking. She also was a volunteer at HospiceCare in the Berkshires.

Her husband, George E. Williams, whom she married March 15, 1943, died Jan. 25, 1999.

She leaves three sons, Edward "Mickey" Williams of Becket and Dennis J. Williams and John C. Williams, both of Pittsfield; a brother, John C. Connors of Pittsfield; five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Mary Jane Williams, who died Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2006, will be Friday, Aug. 11, at 9 a.m., with a Liturgy of Christian Burial, at St. Joseph's Church, celebrated by the Rev. Michael Shershanovich, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery.

At her request, there will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph's Church Improvement Fund in care of DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, 40 Maplewood Ave., Pittsfield 01201, which is in charge of arrangements.

She also leaves five grandchildren, Kelly Williams, Dennis Williams Jr., Jason Williams, John C. Williams Jr. and Jenna Williams; three great-grandchildren, Ciara, Katelynn and Quinn Williams; three daughters-in-law, Jane Williams, Deborah Williams and Loretta Williams, and her sister-in-law, Ida Connors.

She was predeceased by her sister, Rose Lippold. She leaves many nieces and nephews. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
