Anthony C. "Spuzzy" Esposito

Anthony C. "Spuzzy" Esposito, 85, of 66 Clarkson Ave., a winter resident of Ormond Beach, Fla., died yesterday at his home.

Born in DiCalabria, Italy, on Dec. 10, 1920, son of Domenico and Theresa Casavalan Esposito, he came to the United States when he was 1 and lived in Hornell, N.Y., until the age of 5.

He moved to Pittsfield in 1926 and attended Pittsfield schools.

He graduated from Pittsfield High School, where he played on the football team with the class of 1940.

He was a Navy veteran of both World War II and the Korean War, serving as a machinist mate, first class. He received the World War II Victory Medal, American Area Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Area Ribbon and the Good Conduct Medal.

He was employed by General Electric Co. for 43 years in the power transformer department in maintenance as a group leader, retiring in 1982.

Mr. Esposito was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church, and at one time a communicant of St. Theresa's Church. He was a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioner's Clubs.

His first wife, the former Cecelia K. Teti, whom he married May 6, 1946, died June 5, 1994.

He and his wife, the former Carmella T. Tucci, were married Oct. 6, 1995. She died June 13, 1996.

Mr. Esposito leaves his companion, Marie Ann Wicker of Pittsfield, with whom he made his home; two sons, Joseph P. Esposito of Las Vegas and Michael A. Esposito of Pittsfield; two stepsons, Anthony and Frank D'Agostino, both of Pittsfield; a sister, Marie Nicholson of Pittsfield; a brother, Angelo Esposito of Lenox; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Anthony C. "Spuzzy" Esposito, who died Monday, Aug. 21, 2006, will take place Friday at 8:15 a.m. at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St., Pittsfield, MA 01201, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, Pittsfield.

Burial will take place on Thursday, Aug. 31, at 1 p.m., with full military honors, at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Pittsfield. Calling hours at the funeral home are Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. Memorial donations are suggested for the St. Jude's Children's Hospital or to BARC through the funeral home.

He was the devoted grandfather of Joseph Esposito, Michael Esposito and Anthony Esposito, and great-grandfather of Alphonse and Austin Esposito. He also leaves his long-time caregiver, Mary Busch. He was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Esposito.
