Barbara A. McMahon

Barbara A. McMahon, 73, of 186 Lebanon Ave., died Thursday at Berkshire Medical Center following a long illness.

Born in Pittsfield on May 22, 1933, daughter of Frederick and Evelyn Daigle Gerhardt, she attended the local schools and was a 1951 graduate of Pittsfield High School.

She was employed by Berkshire Community Action Council as a bookkeeper, retiring in 1998. Previously, she was the bookkeeper at Brodie Mountain for many years. At one time, she was also an Avon Representative.

Mrs. McMahon was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Emblem Club for Women and was a Girl Scout Troop Leader while her daughters were growing up. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, ceramics and traveling.

She and her husband, Bernard McMahon, would have celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary on Sept. 27.

Besides her husband, she leaves three daughters, Bernadette McMahon of Williamstown, Brenda Whiteaker of Austin, Texas, and Barbara Scace of Pittsfield; two sisters, Patricia Santora of Pittsfield and Jane Thorworth of Ballston Spa, N.Y.; and two grandsons.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Barbara A. Gerhardt McMahon, 73, who died Thursday, Aug. 24, 2006, will be Monday at 1 p.m. at the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME with the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor of St. Charles Church, officiating.

Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Monday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, donations in her memory may be made to the Memory Disorder Clinic in care of the funeral home.

She also leaves her grandsons, David Whiteaker and Michael Whiteaker and his wife Maeghan; two sons-in-law; Darrell Whiteaker and Daniel Scace; a brother-in-law, Joseph Santora; a sister-in-law, Carrol Gerhardt; and several nieces and nephews.
