Thomas A. Sacchetti, 88, of 52 McKinley Terrace died Saturday at Berkshire Medical Center after a long illness.
Born in Pittsfield on Aug. 2, 1918, son of Anthony M. Sacchetti Sr. and Amelia Taccovelli Sacchetti, he was a 1937 graduate of Pittsfield High School, where he was a member of the tumbling team.
Mr. Sacchetti and his late brothers, Francis Sacchetti and Henry Sacchetti, owned the former Rainbow Restaurant for many years. He retired in 1977.
He was a member of the Rainbow Club and the Sons of Italy Itam Lodge, and enjoyed bowling, and ballroom and country-western dancing.
He and his wife, the former Josephine A. Malally, would have celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary Oct. 5. They were married at Corpus Christi Church in Housatonic.
Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Thomas A. Sacchetti and Greg Sacchetti, both of Pittsfield; two daughters, Carol A. Broyles of Chicopee and Jodie A. McCarthy of Pittsfield; a brother, Anthony M. Sacchetti Jr. of Pittsfield; three sisters, Marguerite Papa and Joan Monteleone, both of Pittsfield, and Nina Stomski of Torrington, Conn.; 13 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Thomas A. Sacchetti, 88, who died Aug. 26, 2006, will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 at Mount Carmel Church by the Rev. Christopher J. Waitekus, pastor of St. Ann's Church in Lenox.
Burial will be at a later date in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be tomorrow from 4 to 7 at DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, donations in his memory may be made to the Patients' Activity Fund at Hillcrest Commons or to a charity of one's choice in care of the funeral home, 40 Maplewood Ave., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
He also leaves two daughters-in-law, Joan and Susan Sacchetti; two sons-in-law, Bruce Broyles and Michael McCarthy; a sister-in-law, Dolly Sacchetti; two brothers-in-law, Richard Stomski and Robert Monteleone, and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Francis, Henry and Eugene Sacchetti. He will be remembered by all for his wonderful sense of humor and his love for family and friends.
