Mrs. Guachione worked for 20 years as chef, accountant and supervisor of the family restaurant, the former Friendship Lounge on Seymour Street, retiring in 1997. She also held positions in the nursing, sales, administration, legal and secretarial fields.

She was a communicant of Mount Carmel Church and enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, reading, and blueberry and mushroom picking.

Her husband, Charles Guachione, died Nov. 24, 1995. They were married Aug. 31, 1940.

She leaves three sons, Roger C. Guachione of Richmond, Daniel C. Guachione of Manchester, Conn., and Glenn D. Guachione of Pittsfield; a daughter, Carolyn G. Renzi of Pittsfield; two brothers, James Arpante and Richard Arpante, both of Pittsfield; three sisters, Clara Pictrowski of Pittsfield, Arlene DiNicola of Dalton and Beatrice Barris of Pittsfield; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Calling hours at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME will be tomorrow, Sept. 1, from 4 to 7. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mount Carmel Church or HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home.

She was predeceased by three brothers, Michael, Henry and Augustus Arpante, and by a sister, Grace Arpante. Vi "Mim" had great physical beauty, raven-black hair and classic facial features.

More importantly, she possessed personal qualities that included a love of life, wisdom, willingness to help all, an uncomplaining nature no matter what befell her, a fierce pride, a sense of humor and a laugh that was contagious, compassion, and a seeming endless supply of energy, willpower and love. She had a variety of interests, including cooking -- her culinary skills were appreciated by all who found themselves within the realm of her kitchen -- collecting antiques, sewing, berrying and reading, especially works about Abraham Lincoln. Her greatest passion was her devotion to her family, especially her grandchildren. Her loss will deeply affect all who knew her.
