Clara A. Pictrowski

Clara A. Pictrowski, 81, of 31 Wellesley St. died Wednesday at home after a short illness.
Born in Pittsfield on Nov. 25, 1924, daughter of Luigi and Luisa Altobelli Arpante, she was a 1943 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
Mrs. Pictrowski was employed by the Pittsfield Public Schools as an assistant librarian for 32 years, retiring in 1999. She spent most of her career at Pittsfield High School but also worked at Crosby, Williams and Egremont.
She was a communicant of Holy Family Church and a member of its Mothers' Guild.
She was president of the Parent Teachers Association at the former Pomeroy School, a member of the Women's Club, a Girl Scout troop leader and a docent at Arrowhead.
She also volunteered for many years at the Massachusetts Audubon Society. She enjoyed cooking, reading, flower gardening and picking blueberries. She also raised sheep and hydrangeas at the family farm on Churchill Road for many years.
She and her husband, Walter J. Pictrowski Sr., would have celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary Sept. 27.
Besides her husband, she leaves three sons, Walter J. Pictrowski Jr., Daniel M. Pictrowski and Matthew Pictrowski, all of Pittsfield; two daughters, Louise P. Swider of Florence and Diane M. Pictrowski of Manchester, N.H.; two brothers, James and Richard Arpante, both of Pittsfield; two sisters, Arlene DiNicola of Dalton and Beatrice Barris of Pittsfield; three grandchildren, and a great-grandson.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Clara A. Pictrowski, 81, who died Aug. 30, 2006, will be Tuesday, Sept. 5, at 8:15 from DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, 40 Maplewood Ave., Pittsfield, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 at Holy Family Church celebrated by the Rev. Michael Shershanovich, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday, Sept. 4, from 1 to 4 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, donations in her memory may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires, 369 South St., Pittsfield, MA 01201, in care of the funeral home. She also leaves her grandchildren, Alissa, Marc and Adam Pictrowski; her great-grandson, Cody Pictrowski; a son-in-law, Alan C. Swider, and two daughters-in-law, Anne and Heather Pictrowski.
She was predeceased by three brothers, Michael, Henry and Augustus Arpante, and by two sisters, Grace Arpante and Viola Guachione (on Tuesday). Her greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was very fond of her dog, Beau. She will be remembered as a woman of great faith and will be deeply missed by all who shared in her life.
