Esther Luddy Tilton, 84, of Mountain View Apartments in Hadley, died Saturday at the Calvin Coolidge Nursing Home in Northampton.
Her daughter, Judith Rennie, lived in Pittsfield.
Born on July 2, 1922, in Amherst, daughter of Verna and John and Verna Luddy, she was educated in Amherst schools.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Whately Congregational Church for more than 50 years, where she sang in the choir, and often played the piano for town shows.
She enjoyed playing the piano and gardening.
She and her husband Vincent Tilton, were married for 43 years as of this August.
In addition to her husband, of Hadley, and her daughter, of Pittsfield, she leaves a son, James Griswold of North Grafton; two daughters, Mary Shumway of Carvallis, Ore. and Diane Verheyen of Hadley; two stepsons, Wayne Tilton of California and Rodney Tilton of Claremont, Calif.; two stepdaughters, Marjorie Burbank and Eileen Fullam, both of Vermont; a brother, Frederick Luddy of Amherst; 12 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
She is predeceased by a daughter, Marguerite "Peggy" Harrington of Adams.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A funeral service for Esther Luddy Tilton, who died Sept. 2, 2006, will be at 11 a.m. on Friday at the Whately Congregational Church, with Dr. Robert Rennie officiating.
Calling hours will be at DOUGLAS FUNERAL HOME, Amherst, on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. She is predeceased by a sister, Erma Puffer of Shutesbury. She loved playing the piano, and played classical music, hymns, and show tunes right up to the present.
