May M. Thayer, 85, of 395 West Housatonic St. died Monday at Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center, where she had resided since July 2005.
Born in Pittsfield on Dec. 29, 1920, daughter of Allan J. and Inez Desmond Thayer, she was a 1938 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
She received a bachelor's degree from the University of Massachusetts, a master's degree in education from the former North Adams State Teachers College and a master's degree from Columbia University.
A teacher, Miss Thayer was employed by the Pittsfield Public Schools and taught at Crosby, at the former South Junior High School and at Pittsfield High School, from which she retired.
She was a member of First Baptist Church.
She leaves two nieces and five nephews.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Following cremation, interment for May M. Thayer, who died Monday, Sept. 4, 2006, will be in Pittsfield Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
Donations in her memory may be made to a charity of the donor's choice in care of WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 220 East St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Ruth Osborn and Dorothy Casucci.
