Daniel "Dan" Christopolis, 84, of 38 Livingston Ave. died yesterday at Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility.
Born in Newark, N.J., on Aug. 5, 1922, son of Constantine and Theodora Karatzia Christpolis, he came to Pittsfield as an infant and was raised by his stepfather, Theodore Ekonomon, and was a 1940 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
A decorated World War II Army veteran, he served in Europe and was in the Battle of the Bulge, and at the first crossing of the Rhine River at Remagen. He was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant.
He worked at Eaton Paper Company as a copy writer and, later, as a production promotion manager at Schaeffer Eaton, retiring in 1985 after 23 years of service. Prior to that, he was employed for 25 years as a radio broadcaster in New York, Pennsylvania and, later on, locally.
He was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church.
His wife, the former Mary Diamond, whom he married March 11, 1944, died March 5, 1992.
He leaves a son, Deane Christopolis of Dalton; a daughter, Dori Christopolis of Pittsfield; a brother, John Ekonomon of Pittsfield; and two grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Daniel Christopolis, who died Monday, Sept. 11, 2006, will be held Thursday, Sept. 14, at 10 a.m. from DERY FUNERAL HOME, followed by a service at 10:30 a.m. at St. George Church, conducted by the Rev. Constantine Cambas, priest of St. George.
Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. George Church in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford, St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
He also leaves his daughter-in-law, Anne Christopolis; his son-in-law, Steven Wood; a grandson, David, and his wife, Barbara, of Pittsfield; a granddaughter, Alyssa of Boston; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Charles Ekonomon and George Christy.
