Dominic J. Ferraro

Dominic J. Ferraro, 90, of 3900 16th St. NW, Washington, formerly of Pittsfield, died Tuesday of cardiovascular disease at Washington Hospital Center in Washington.
Born in Boston on May 11, 1916, son of Francesco and Maria Cortale Ferraro, he grew up in Pittsfield and was a 1934 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
An Army veteran of World War II, he was stationed in North Africa, France and Italy between 1941 and 1945.
He moved to Washington following his discharge.
Mr. Ferraro was employed by the Department of the Navy, Naval Air Systems Command, from 1959 to 1976. Following his retirement, he continued doing financial system consulting until the age of 82. Before his work for the Navy, he worked with the Veterans Administration and with the chief of finance for the Army.
While in Pittsfield, he was a communicant of Mount Carmel Church. He enjoyed writing poetry, some of which has been published.
His former wife, Mary L. DelSignore Ferraro, whom he married in 1951, died Nov. 29, 1977.
He leaves a daughter, Mary Louise Ferraro of Cambridge.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A graveside service for Dominic Joseph Ferraro, who died Thursday, Sept. 19, 2006, will be conducted Friday, Sept. 29, at 11:30 at St. Joseph's Cemetery by the Rev. Isaac Keely of St. Joseph's Abbey in Spencer. A time of visitation will precede from 10:30 to 11:15 at DERY FUNERAL HOME. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Ferraro may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield.
Mr. Ferraro, remembered as a quiet and unassuming man, also leaves two nephews, Joseph J. Ferraro Jr. and Joseph E. Mendonca Jr.; three nieces, Mary Suzanne Harrison, Evelyn M. Croughwell and Mary Jane Ferraro; his friends, Trudy Oliver, Maria Carmouze, Garfield Adams, Alfredo Hernandez, Adelina Ramos and Kathy Lotspeich, and all the residents at Crestwood Apartments in Washington, who were so dear to him.
He was predeceased by two brothers, James P. and Joseph J. Ferraro, and by a sister, Virginia N. Mendonca.
