Maurice C. Bredin Jr.

Maurice C. Bredin Jr., 86, of 18 Sunset St. died Sunday at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born in Housatonic on Feb. 17, 1920, son of Maurice C. Bredin Sr. and Ella Gillette Bredin, he attended the former Searles High School.

An Army veteran of World War II, he served 4 1/2 years with the 10th Photo Reconnaissance Squadron, 3rd Army, under General George Patton in the European theater and was discharged in 1945.

Mr. Bredin was employed by the former Berkshire Air Conditioning Corp. as a sheet metal mechanic for 20 years, retiring in 1976. He also worked for Pittsfield Pipers and M&W Heating and was a shop steward for several years.

He was a communicant of St. Charles' Church and a member of Charles A. Persip American Legion Post 68 and a former member of the National Rifle Association.

He enjoyed hunting and camping and was a fan of the Red Sox and the New England Patriots.

He and his wife, the former Mary Bourquard, would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Oct. 12.

Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Michael C. Bredin of Attleboro; a daughter, Maureen Y. McHugh of Pittsfield; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Maurice C. Bredin Jr., who died Sept. 24, 2006, will be Friday, Sept. 29, at 9 from DWYER FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Charles' Church celebrated by the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Bridget's Cemetery, Housatonic, with the Rev. Anthony J. Jutt proclaiming the committal prayers.

Calling hours will be tomorrow, Sept. 28, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. If friends desire, memorial donations may be made to the St. Charles' Church Memorial Fund or to the Friends of Renal Dialysis Inc., both in care of the funeral home, 776 North St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.

Beloved father-in-law to Frank J. McHugh and Nancy W. Bredin. Loving grandfather to Kimberly Croce and her husband, Peter, Brendan Young and his wife, Stacy, Kathleen and Stephanie Young, and Matthew, Jason and Kyle Bredin. Beloved great-grandfather to Anthony and Madelyn Croce.

He also leaves two step-grandchildren, Rachael and Joshua McHugh. He loved spending time with his family. He was predeceased by his sister, Helen E. Ryan.
