Carolyn M. Casteel, 74, formerly of 76 Lexington Parkway, died yesterday at Hillcrest Commons where she had resided for several years.
Born in Kansas City, Mo., on July 5, 1932, daughter of George W. and Goldie Dresnick Carlson, she was a 1949 graduate of Austin High School in Chicago and a 1953 graduate of the University of Illinois, with a bachelor of arts degree in language.
She was active in the Boys' and Girls' Club of Pittsfield for many years. Her accomplishments include running the annual hockey equipment sale and coordinating the publicity, records and statistics of the youth hockey program.
She also served as secretary for the board of directors, was a member of the hockey board, and was the first woman elected to the Boys' Club board of directors. She was also involved in the College Club of Pittsfield for over 10 years, holding several positions in the club and coordinating the scholarship program.
Her husband, Milford "Mike" Casteel, whom she married Aug. 28, 1954, died Aug. 1, 2005.
She leaves four sons, Michael Casteel of New London, Conn., Andrew Casteel of Ledyard, Conn., Geoffrey Casteel of Waltham, and Matthew Casteel of Tampa, Fla.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Calling hours for Mrs. Carolyn M. Casteel, who died Monday, Oct. 3, 2006, will be at WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. A graveside service will be held Friday, Oct. 6, in Pittsfield Cemetery at 2 p.m., celebrated by the Rev. Luis Benevides, pastor of the First United Methodist Church.
Friends are asked to be inside the gates at 1:45 p.m. She leaves two daughters-in-law, Kathleen Carey and Kazuko Sagawa; four granddaughters, Zena Casteel, Cora Casteel, Isabella Casteel and Katrina Casteel; and a grandson, Kaden Casteel.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association, in care of the funeral home, 220 East St., Pittsfield, MA 01201. Mrs. Casteel was a much-loved wife and mother.
Geoff, I am truly sorry for the loss of your Mom and Dad.
