Sylvia Conte Reid, 86, of Yarmouth died Sunday at the Mayflower Place Nursing Center after a long illness.
Born in Pittsfield on Feb. 1, 1920, daughter of Ottavio and Lucia Lora Conte, she graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1938.
She worked for General Electric Co. in Pittsfield until her marriage.
She then moved to Lenox, where she lived until moving to Yarmouth in 1996.
Mrs. Reid was a member of St. Pius in South Yarmouth, and while in Lenox was a member of St. Anne's Parish, where she was a member of the Catholic Daughters and the Rosary Society.
She was a Girl Scout leader and had volunteered at the former Edgecomb Nursing Home in Lenox for many years.
She leaves her husband of 65 years, Donald H. Reid.
She also leaves five daughters, Dona Wylie of Earlysville, Va., Susan Hayes of St. Charles, Ill., Mary Beth Durney and Charlene Carey, both of South Dennis and Theresa Villarreal of Palatine, Ill.; two sisters, Angela Bowerman and Elizabeth Baldassarini, both of Pittsfield; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A funeral Mass for Sylvia Conte Reid, who died Sunday, Oct. 1, 2006, will be celebrated today at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Chapel, 32 Summer St., Yarmouth Port. Burial will follow in Chandler Gray Cemetery, West Yarmouth.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cape Cod, 270 Communication Way, Hyannis, MA 02601. She was predeceased by a brother, the Honorable Sylvio Conte of Pittsfield.
