Eleanor M. Burbank, 87, of 7319 Old Sage Drive, Bayonet Point, Fla., a native of Pittsfield, died Thursday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born on Feb. 22, 1919, daughter of Herbert J. and Ella Mauersberger Gladu, she was a 1937 graduate of St. Joseph's High School.
Mrs. Burbank was employed by the former Newberry's on North Street as manager of the basement level, retiring in 1987 with 30 years of service.
Following her retirement, she moved to Florida and spent summers in Dalton.
She was a communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Church. While in Pittsfield, she was a communicant of St. Agnes' Church and a former communicant of North American Martyrs' Church. She was a member of the Ladies' Auxiliary of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen, the Ponderosa Park Civic Association in Florida and the Friday Lunch Bunch. She enjoyed reading and playing cards.
She and her husband, Maurice A. "Mo" Burbank, were married 37 years. He died May 3, 1987.
She leaves three daughters, Wilma W. Britigan of Pittsfield and Bayonet Point, Patricia A. Gardner of Dalton, with whom she resided in the summer, and Gail E. Vallone of Pelican Rapids, Minn.; two sons, Ronald E. Hooper of Elmira, N.Y., and Frederick A. Burbank of Rensselaer, N.Y.; 20 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Eleanor M. Burbank, who died Oct. 5, 2006, will be Tuesday at 10 from DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 at St. Agnes' Church celebrated by the Rev. Christopher Malatesta, pastor.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be tomorrow from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, donations in her memory may be made to the Friends of Renal Dialysis in care of the funeral home.
She leaves her son-in-law, Bill Gardner, and two daughters-in-law, Nancy Hooper and Marie Burbank.
