Elizabeth Theresa Gilmartin-Persson

Elizabeth Theresa Gilmartin-Persson, 87, formerly of Emerson Avenue died Saturday, Oct. 6, at Briarwood Nursing Home in Atlanta, where she had resided for the past six years.

Born in Somerville on Aug. 27, 1919, daughter of Robert and Rhunghild Andersson Ewing, she moved to Pittsfield as a young girl and graduated from Pittsfield High School.

She was employed by Berkshire Life Insurance Co. as a file clerk. She had at one time worked as a sales clerk at the former England Brothers Department Store.

Mrs. Gilmartin-Persson was a communicant of St. Theresa's Church, and was a member and past president of the Emblem Club of Pittsfield.

Her first husband, John H. Gilmartin, died March 21, 1970. Her second husband, John Persson, died in 2005.

She leaves a daughter, Kathleen A. Thomasson of Scottsdale, Ariz., and two grandchidren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Elizabeth Theresa Gilmartin-Persson, who died Oct. 6, 2006, will be held on Friday, Oct. 13, at 10 a.m. at St. Agnes' Church in Dalton.

Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. DERY FUNERAL HOME is in charge of arrangments. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford. St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.

She also leaves a son-in-law, Ernest Thomasson, and two grandchildren, Erin Thomasson and Greta Griffith. She was predeceased by two brothers, Robert Ewing and John Ewing, and two sisters, Nancy Kirby and Ida Mae Persson.
