James Francis Leonard

James Francis Leonard, 65, of 132 Velma Ave. died Sunday morning at his home.
Born in Whitinsville on Aug. 22, 1941, son of Ernest J. and Margaret Cahill Leonard, he was a 1959 graduate of Northbridge High School, and in 1988, he graduated from Berkshire Community College with an associate of science degree in criminal justice.
He served in the Army National Guard from March 1964 to May 1966.
A 1968 graduate of the Massachusetts State Police Academy at Framingham, he served as a state trooper with the Massachusetts State Police, Troop B, retiring in 1992 with the rank of lieutenant. Following his retirement until earlier this year, he served as senior investigator for the Insurance Fraud Bureau. Previously, he had worked for General Electric Co.
He enjoyed tennis, golf and hiking.
Mr. Leonard leaves his wife, the former Catherine A. Houle, whom he married on Sept. 21, 1973.
He also leaves a daughter, Kristin M. Leonard of Pittsfield; a brother, William J. Leonard of Northbridge; and two sisters, Mary C. Mulrenin of Whitinsville and Judith A. Sabourin of Hudson.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for James Francis Leonard, who died Oct. 8, 2006, will be Saturday, Oct. 14, at 11 a.m. at St. Charles' Church, celebrated by the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor. There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires or to the charity of one's choice in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
