Frank Mantella

Frank Mantella, 73, of 664 Elm St. died Tuesday at the Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Pittsfield on April 13, 1933, son of George and Velia Pazzelli Mantella, he graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1953.
He was last employed by J. H. Maxymillian Inc. for five years until retiring in 2000.
Prior to that, he was the proprietor of the former Frank's Variety on West Housatonic Street in Pittsfield for five years and also was employed by the former Grand Union in Pittsfield as produce manager for 15 years.
He was a communicant of Mount Carmel Church, and a member of the V.F.W. Post 448 of Pittsfield and the Laborers Union Local 473.
He enjoyed gardening and picking mushrooms, and was a fan of the Boston Red Sox.
He was a Korean War Army veteran.
He leaves his wife, the former Christine M. Stroffolino, whom he married on June 18, 1960, and a daughter, Karen A. Mantella of Pittsfield.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Frank Mantella, who died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006, will take place Friday, Oct. 13, at 9 a.m. from FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St., Pittsfield, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, celebrated by the Rev. Geoffrey J. Deeker, CSS, pastor.
Burial will follow in the family plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Pittsfield. Calling hours at the funeral home will be on Thursday, Oct. 12, from 4 to 7 p.m. He was a devoted husband and loving father and he loved his precious dog, "Duke."
