Doris G. Prentiss

Doris G. Prentiss, 88, of 50 Hungerford St. died Tuesday at Mount Greylock Extended Care Facility, where she had resided for three months.
Born in Pittsfield on Feb. 6, 1918, daughter of Louis and Rose Phaneuf Gilbert, she was raised in the Hungerford Street house, where she lived throughout her life.
She graduated from Pittsfield High School.
She and her late husband, James I. Gilbert, owned and operated the Prentiss Bake Shop at 159 North St. for more than 20 years. Mrs. Prentiss decorated many wedding and all-occasion cakes.
She and her husband were married May 3, 1936. He died Jan. 12, 1986.
She was a communicant of the former Notre Dame Church, and enjoyed playing bingo.
She leaves a son, Robert G. Prentiss, a former New York state assemblyman, Albany County legislator and former Pittsfield city councilman at large, of Colonie, N.Y.; two daughters, Elaine D. Marchand of Pittsfield and Jean D. Munn of Dalton; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Another son, Gary James Prentiss, is deceased.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Doris Gilbert Prentiss, who died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2006, will be Friday, Oct. 13, at 8:15 a.m. from DERY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, celebrated by the Rev. Michael A. Shershanovich, pastor.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be today from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Prentiss may be made to HospiceCare of the Berkshires in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield.
Mrs. Prentiss also leaves her sons-in-law, Peter W. Marchand and James F. Munn Sr.; her daughter-in-law, Marlene W. Prentiss; seven grandchildren, Lisa L. Galasso, Roger G. Prentiss, James F. Munn Jr., Todd Prentiss Munn, Lori J. Munn, Gary James Munn and Tammi J. Walsh; 10 great-grandchildren, Donnie Prentiss, Anthony and Adriana Galasso, Dylan Prentiss, Christopher, Matthew, Joshua, Ashley, Mari-Lee and Charlotte Munn; and her beloved cat, Baby, who will miss her terribly.
She was predeceased by a brother, Leo L. Gilbert. She enjoyed her home, spending time with her family and visiting friends.
