George R. Sawyer

George R. Sawyer, 58, of 23 Cecelia Terrace, died Sunday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Pittsfield on Feb. 26, 1948, son of the late Donald and Myrtle Benson Sawyer, he was a 1965 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
Mr. Sawyer was employed as an assembler in the power transformer department at General Electric Co., retiring in 1991.
He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 272 for 24 years, the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners' clubs, and the former Pittsfield Rod and Gun Club.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, leather working, drawing, and soap box derbies.
Besides his mother of Pittsfield, he leaves two sons, Cory Sawyer of Hudson and Travis Sawyer of North Adams; two brothers, Robert Sawyer of Dalton and William Sawyer of Pittsfield; a sister, Dianna Cahalen of Pittsfield; and four grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for George R. Sawyer, 58, who died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2006, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, with the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor of St. Charles Church, officiating.
Burial will be at a later date. Calling hours will be on Wednesday from 4 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home. The Lodge of Sorrows Ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, donations in his memory may be made to the Elks Scholarship Fund in care of the funeral home, 40 Maplewood Ave., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
He is also lovingly survived by his grandchildren, Christian, Trevor, Kolby, and Zack Sawyer.
