Edward F. Sagendorph

Edward F. Sagendorph, 92, of 42 Newell St. died Saturday morning at home.

Born in Troy, N.Y., on Dec. 16, 1913, son of Herbert and Julia Cripps Sagendorph, he attended schools in Pittsfield.

Mr. Sagendorph was employed by the former A.D. Hull's Garage for many years as an auto mechanic, retiring in 1972. Also, he was for many years a self-employed auto mechanic.

He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church.

He enjoyed gardening, fishing and ice fishing. He broke various state and world records, including catching a 26-pound northern pike in Onota Lake that set a Masschusetts record. He was also a Boston Red Sox fan.

He and his wife, the former Virginia Turoczy, were married June 10, 1939.

Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Jean M. Stiffler of Pittsfield and Rose J. Baker of Cheshire; a son, Carl J. Sagendorph of Blackstone; a brother, Joseph Sagendorph of Albany, Ga.; two sisters, Joan Froio of Pittsfield and Margaret Reynolds of Richmond; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

A son, Edward Sagendorph, died in 1941, and another son, Roger Sagendorph, died in 1995.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Edward F. Sagendorph, who died Oct. 21, 2006, will be held Thursday at 9:15 a.m. from DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, celebrated by the Rev. James K. Joyce, pastor.

Burial will follow in the family plot at St. Joseph's Cemtery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be tomorrow from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to HospiceCare of the Berkshire in care of the funeral home.

Mr. Sagendorph leaves his nine loving grandchildren, Terri and Richard Stiffler, Kimberly Lukinsky, Michelle Slonski, Colleen Martin, and Roger, Jason, Alexandra and Mellisa Sagendorph; and his eight great-grandchildren, Emiley, Lily, Catie, Molly, Aidon, Brandon, Cameron and Justin. He also leaves devoted daughters-in-law, Joan Sagendorph and Marion Messer and sons-in-law, Doug Stiffler and Butch Baker.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Herbert and Alfred Sagendorph, and by a sister, Gladys Stannel.
