Shirley I. Scace, 89, formerly of 96 Central Berkshire Blvd., died Friday at Springside Nursing Home, where she had resided for five years.
Born in Dalton on March 5, 1917, daughter of Roswell and Ida Gardner Smith, she attended schools there.
Mrs. Scace was employed by the former Eaton Paper Co., retiring with 15 years of service. Before that, she and her husband, Ralph L. Scace, operated Hillside Garden Vegetable Stand.
She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, cooking and gardening.
The couple were married Oct. 29, 1938. He died Feb. 20, 1987. They spent many winters in Sarasota, Fla.
She leaves a daughter, Beverly S. Mierzejewski; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Shirley Scace will be conducted Tuesday at 11 at WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME by the Rev. Irene Jones. Burial will be in Pittsfield Cemetery.
Calling hours will be tomorrow from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. She also leaves her grandchildren, Heather Murphy and her husband, Matthew, of Pittsfield, and Scott Mierzejewski and his wife, Terissa, of Marrero, La.; two great-grandchildren, Felicia and Samantha Mierzejewski; and a son-in-law, Walter Mierzejewski. A sister, Janet Herrick, and a brother, Roswell Smith, are deceased.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Springside Nursing Home activities fund or to HospiceCare in the Berkshires, both in care of the funeral home.
