Albert Rowe

Albert Rowe, 87, of 143 Wendell Ave. died Wednesday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in New York on July 14, 1919, son of Louis and Ruth Seidberg Ratner, he graduated from Townsend Harris High School. He received his bachelor's in electrical engineering from City College in New York and his master's from Columbia University.
An Army veteran of World War II, he acheived the rank of sergeant major with Headquarters Company, 369th Infantry. He participated in battles in Ardennes, Central Europe, Normandy, Northern France and the Rhineland and received several campaign medals.
Following his graduation from Columbia, Mr. Rowe moved to Pittsfield, where he was employed by General Electric Co. as an electrical engineer in the power transformer department for 38 years, retiring in 1984.
He was a member of Unitarian-Universalist Church, the GE Quarter-Century and Pensioners' clubs and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. He was also an artist and authored several monographs illustrating the interactions among form, color and logic.
He and his wife, the former Dorothy Filter, would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Jan. 21.
Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Paul Rowe of Bethesda, Md., and a sister, Sherry Smith of New York.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service to celebrate the life of Albert Rowe, who died Nov. 8, 2006, will be held at a date and time to be announced. There will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, donations in his memory may be made to the Berkshire Museum in care of DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, 40 Maplewood Ave., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
He was also an artist, painting portraits of his family and friends, still lifes and many other subjects. His mind was constantly alive with explorations into mathematics, art, logic and science.
