Francis W. Connolly

Francis W. Connolly, 89, of 16005 Indus Drive, Woodbridge, Va., a native of Pittsfield, died Tuesday at Burke (Va.) Healthcare Center.

Born on July 9, 1917, son of John J. and Mary Feeney Connolly, he was a 1934 graduate of St. Joseph's High School. In 1980, he moved to Lakeland, Fla., where he lived for 22 years.

An Army veteran of World War II, he served from 1942 to 1946 with the 838th Aircraft Artillery Unit and was discharged as a captain.

Mr. Connolly was employed by General Electric Co. in the former distribution power transformer department, retiring as a foreman in 1978 with 42 years service.

His wife, the former Lucille C. Loehr, is deceased.

He leaves a daughter, Maureen L. Connolly of South Weymouth; a son, William F. Connolly of Woodbridge, Va.; three sisters, Mary E. Rice of Lenox, Sheila A. Connolly of Milford, Pa., and Kathleen T. Connolly of Pittsfield; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Francis W. Connolly, who died Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2006, will be Saturday at 8:15 from DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 9 at Sacred Heart Church by the Rev. James K. Joyce, pastor.

Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be tomorrow from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, donations in his memory may be made to Capital Hospice, ATTN: Development Office, 6565 Arlington Blvd., Suite 501, Falls Church, VA 22042.

He also leaves his grandchildren, Maura E. Staten and her husband, Mark, of Farmington, Utah, Marianne K. Connolly of Woodbridge, Melissa A. Zovak and her husband, Christopher, of Fredericksburg, Va., and Mark Connolly of Woodbridge; and great-grandchildren, Jacob and Ryan Staten.
