Bernice Ortenberg

Bernice Ortenberg, 79, of 61 Salisbury Court died yesterday at home.
Born in Bronx, N.Y., on Aug. 18, 1927, daughter of Harry and Rose Mayer Toporofsky, she attended schools in New York and graduated from college in 1948 with a degree in business administration.
Mrs. Ortenberg was the first teacher for the Pittsfield Public Schools' Teen Parent Program. She taught bookkeeping. She also taught B'nei Mitzvah and Hebrew for 22 years at Temple Anshe Amunim. While in New York, she was an assistant buyer for several major department stores.
She was a member of Knesset Israel and of Hadassah.
She and her husband, Ben Ortenberg, were married Sept. 9, 1951, in New York. He died Sept. 18, 1995.
She leaves a daughter, Cantor Amy Miller of Pittsfield; a son, Charles Ortenberg of Menlo Park, Calif.; a brother, Dr. David Taberof Chicago; and four grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Bernice Ortenberg, who died Sunday, Dec. 10, 2006, will be conducted Wednesday at 1:30 at Knesset Israel Synagogue by Rabbi David Greenspoon, spiritual leader.
Burial will follow in Knesset Israel Cemetery. Memorial week will be observed at the home of Amy and Stephen Miller at 37 Concord Parkway. Memorial donations are suggested for the Ben & Bernice Ortenberg Endowment at Knesset Israel, the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America or the Polycystic Kidney Disease Association through FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
She also leaves a son-in-law, Stephen Miller; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Stone; and four grandchildren, Jacqueline and Roberta Miller, and David and Richard Ortenberg.
