Joseph Edward Smith, 94, of 5 Hall Place died Wednesday at home.
He had resided there since 1969.
Born in Pittsfield on Jan. 24, 1912, son of Michael and Anna Fritz Smith, he was a 1930 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
Mr. Smith owned and operated the former Bridges Garage at the site of the Columbus Avenue Parking Garage, retiring in 1962. He also was active in buying and selling real estate in Pittsfield.
He was a communicant of Holy Family Church. He was a fan of the Boston Red Sox and the Boston Celtics and enjoyed reading, picking blueberries and mushrooming.
His wife, the former Sophie Kozlowski, whom he married in 1950, died May 5, 1990.
He leaves a son, Michael Smith of Pittsfield; two daughters, Maryanne Carnes of Pittsfield and Barbara Mullins of Fruitland, Utah; and three grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Joseph Edward Smith, who died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2006, will be Tuesday at 8:15 from DERY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 9 at Holy Family Church by the Rev. Michael A. Shershanovich, pastor.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Smith may be made to a charity of the donor's choice, in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
