William Edward Prew

William Edward Prew, 53, of 18 Woodbine Ave. died Monday at home of cancer.
Born in Pittsfield on April 29, 1953, son of Madeline Derade Prew and the late William James Prew, he attended St. Joseph's Grammar School and graduated from Taconic High School in 1971.
He was employed by Peter J. Schweitzer and Krofta Engineering, and spent several years working for Biasin Welding in Lee, which included millwrighting work.
Previously, he was employed for many years by Lipton Steel, where he became a certified A.A. welder.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing and received many awards in both sports.
He participated in many fundraising cancer walks and enjoyed gardening. He was also a fan of Dale Earnhardt, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and the Boston Red Sox.
Besides his mother, of Pittsfield, he leaves five brothers, James A. Prew of Lenox Dale, Daniel J. Prew and Jeffrey J. Prew, both of Pittsfield, Richard A. Prew of Hinsdale and Edward A. Prew of Lanesborough; and two sisters, Kathleen A. Talberg of Pittsfield and Christine A. Cairns of the town of Washington.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for William E. Prew, who died Monday, Dec. 11, 2006, will be tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St., Pittsfield, with the Rev. Michael E. Nash, pastor of the Parish of Becket, officiating.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Pittsfield. Calling hours at the funeral home will be today from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Additional survivors include a sister-in-law, Deborah Prew; a brother-in-law, Thomas J. Cairns II; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to HospiceCare in The Berkshires in care of the funeral home.
