Douglas F. Barnes

Douglas F. Barnes, 65, of 189 Churchill Road died Monday at Berkshire Medical Center of an apparent heart attack.

Born in Pittsfield on March 8, 1941, son of the late Leroy and Claire LaFrance Barnes, he was a 1958 graduate of the former Dalton High School and attended Berkshire Community College.

An Army veteran of the Vietnam War, he served from 1959 to 1961.

Mr. Barnes was employed by General Electric Co. in the power transformer department and in ordnance systems, then by Lockheed Martin, retiring in 1996 with a total of 30 years of service.

Following retirement, he worked for four years as an armed ATM service technician for Loomis Fargo and then was a security guard at Berkshire Community College.

Mr. Barnes was lead guitarist for several bands in the area. He was a member of Local 225 Federation of Musicians and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He and his wife, the former Louise LeVardi, celebrated their 38th wedding anniversary Nov. 1. They were married in New Lebanon, N.Y.

Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Douglas F. Ciepiela of Harrisburg, Pa.; two stepsons, Michael Lindsey of Hinsdale and Edward Lindsey of Pittsfield; two brothers, Roy Barnes and Bruce Barnes both of Pittsfield; and seven grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- As per his wishes, the funeral for Douglas F. Barnes, 65, who died Monday, Dec. 18, 2006, will be private, with the Rev. John Salatino, pastor of St. Mark's Church, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery.

There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, if friends desire, donations in his memory may be made to the Berkshire Humane Society in care of DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME, 40 Maplewood Ave., Pittsfield, MA 01201.

He also leaves his grandchildren, Theora, Mitchell, Diedra and Kera LindseyHe was predeceased by a brother, Tom Barnes.
