Esther Gelston DuBois

Esther Gelston DuBois, 92, of Springside Nursing Center, formerly of Goodrich Street, died Saturday at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born in Montreal on March 14, 1914, daughter of the late Robert and Sarah Cochrane Gelston, she attended school in Montreal and moved to Nutley, N.J., in 1952. In 1959, she moved to Newark, where she met her future husband.

She was the wife of the late Kenneth Randolph DuBois, who died March 4, 1984. They were married September 29, 1962, at the North Reformed Church in Newark, NJ.

They moved to New Lebanon, N.Y., in 1969, and she was employed at the Berkshire Farm for Youth in Canaan, N.Y., as a nurse's aide from 1973 until her retirement in 1989.

She was a former member of both the New Lebanon Senior Citizens and the New Lebanon Congregational Church.

She was also a member of the First Baptist Church and the Church Women's League of South Street, a member of the Women's Club of Wendell Avenue and a member of the Pittsfield Senior Citizens, who awarded her with a certificate of merit in 1991 for volunteering many hours of her time over the years. She enjoyed ceramics, knitting, reading and traveling.

She leaves a daughter Orael D. D'Addario of Union, N.J.; a brother, Angus Gelston of Montreal; three grandsons; and five great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Elizabeth DuBois, who died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2006, will be Thursday at 10 a.m. in HALL & HIGGINS FUNERAL HOME, 457 NY 43, Stephentown, N.Y. Burial will be in the Cemetery of the Evergreens in Lebanon Springs.

Relatives and friends are invited to the funeral home on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. for visitation. Elizabeth, who enjoyed traveling, visited Hawaii twice, Florida many times, New Orleans, Alaska with her grandson, the Grand Ole Opera in Nashville, played the slots in Atlantic City and traveled extensively throughout the New England coastline states.

She leaves her three grandsons, Anthony, Randy and Michael, all of New Jersey; a niece, Ann of Montreal; and two great-nieces, Jackie and Allison.
