Elizabeth J. "Betty" Mahoney, 74, of 184 Doreen St. died Saturday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in North Pownal, Vt., on Nov. 5, 1932, daughter of Earl and Delia King Hatch, she was a longtime resident of Pittsfield, and was educated in local schools.
She graduated from St. Joseph's High School in 1951.
Mrs. Mahoney was employed as a clerk in the drafting department at General Electric Co. from 1951 to 1957. In the 1960s, she began an 18-year career as a waitress at the former Stanley Club. In 1981, she returned to General Electric as a clerk, where she worked until retiring in 1993.
She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, and enjoyed traveling and attending her children's and grandchildren's sporting events. She also enjoyed going to Mohegan Sun and the Bradley Tele-Theater.
She and her husband, John J. Mahoney, were married on Nov. 10, 1956, at the former Notre Dame Church. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in November.
Besides her husband, she leaves two sons, Michael J. Mahoney of Rocky Hill, Conn., and Robert E. Mahoney of Granville; and four grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Elizabeth "Betty" Mahoney, who died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2006, will be held Friday at 8:15 a.m. from DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield. It will be followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, celebrated by the Rev. James Joyce, pastor.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Mahoney also leaves her beloved grandchildren, Matthew, Christopher, Thomas and Patrick Mahoney, whose sporting events she loved attending.
She also leaves several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Earl Hatch. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Betty may be made to Sacred Heart Church or to Hospice Care in the Berkshires, both in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
