Rita M. Brassard, 89, formerly of Elm Street, died Sunday evening at Providence Care Center of Lenox, where she had resided since August 2002.
Born in Pittsfield Dec. 15, 1917, daughter of Robert A. and Blanche A. Gagnon St. John, she was a 1936 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
Mrs. Brassard was a homemaker. Prior to her marriage she worked for General Electric Co.
She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church.
She was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, where she enjoyed playing bingo.
She married Arthur F. Brassard on May 30, 1940. He died May 12, 1998.
She leaves two sons, Richard Brassard of Bradenton, Fla., and Robert Brassard of Pittsfield; a daughter, Anne Feeley of Pittsfield; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Rita M. Brassard, who died Sunday, Dec. 24, 2006, will be held Friday, Dec. 29 at 10:15 a.m. from DERY FUNERAL HOME, with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, celebrated by the Rev. James K. Joyce, pastor. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Thursday from 3 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Brassard may be made to the HospiceCare in the Berkshires, in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA.
Mrs. Brassard leaves her daughters-in-law, Joyce (Mrs. Robert) and Kathy (Mrs. Richard); and her 10 grandchildren, Colleen O'Connell, Mark Feeley, Brian Feeley, Chris Prought, Brenda Branom, Lorrie Brassard, Amanda Brassard, Rebecca Shaughnessy, Eric Brassard and Neal Brassard, with whom she enjoyed spending time.
