Matthew David Masiero

Matthew David Masiero, 34, of 171 Magnolia St. in Dorchester, formerly of Pittsfield, died Monday at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston.
Born in Pittsfield on March 16, 1972, son of the late Francis Masiero and Patricia Kipp Masiero Meader, he graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1990.
He graduated from Indiana State University in 1994 and received a master's degree from UMass-Boston in 1998.
A teacher at the Jeremiah E. Burke High School and other Boston public schools, he had worked in special education for 12 years.
He was the director of Five Star Women's Basketball Camp from 1998 until the present, was associate men's basketball coach at UMass-Boston from 1994 to 1998, and coached the varsity girls' basketball team for Jeremiah Burke High School from 2001 to 2003.
He leaves his wife, the former Christine Brown, whom he married in 2005 in Detroit, Mich.
He also leaves his mother, of Pittsfield; a sister, Teresa Goines of Pittsfield; a stepson, Justin Cotton of Detroi; and a stepdaughter, Amber Williams of Detroit.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for Matthew D. Masiero, who died Monday, Dec. 25, 2006, will be held Friday, Dec. 29, at 9:15 a.m. from DERY FUNERAL HOME. Burial will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetary in West Stockbridge.
Calling hours at the funeral home will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 28. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Jeremiah E. Burke High School athletic department in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
He also leaves his stepfather, John Meader of Pittsfield; a step-brother, Thomas Meader of Parachute, Colo.; and a step-sister, Diane Leibinger of Switzerland.
