Beatrice Levinson, 87, of 329 Pittsfield Road died yesterday at Devonshire Estates.
Born in Gary, Ind., on Nov. 26, 1919, daughter of Louis and Rose Himmelstein Appelbaum, she was a 1936 graduate of Emerson High School and a 1940 graduate of Purdue University, where she met her husband, Nathan Levinson.
During World War II, while her husband was in the Navy, she worked at various hospitals in Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. After the war, they settled outside Ithaca, N.Y.
They moved to Pittsfield in 1951 and lived on May Terrace and Williams Street. After her husband's death, she lived on Pomeroy Avenue, then at Salisbury Estates, and finally moved to Devonshire Estates in May 2002.
Mrs. Levinson was employed as a dietary consultant at local nursing homes and taught home economics.
She was a member of the Temple Anshe Amunium Sisterhood and was a docent at the Berkshire Museum. She enjoyed traveling, playing bridge and mah jong, doing crossword puzzles, knitting and gardening.
Her husband, whom she married Feb. 28, 1943, died in 1966.
She leaves a daughter, Carolyn Levinson of Watertown; two sons, Richard Levinson of North Salem, N.Y., and Alan Levinson of Springfield; and two grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Beatrice Levinson, who died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007, will be held Friday at WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME at 1 p.m. with Rabbi Harold Salzman officiating. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association, Temple Anshe Amunim or to a charity of the donor's choice, care of the funeral home, 220 East St., Pittsfield, MA 01201. Among survivors are her grandchildren, Justin and Jordan Levinson. She also leaves a daughter-in-law, Patricia.
