Bernard Raymond Ronan, 80, formerly of 389 Lebanon Ave. died yesterday at Kimball Farms Nursing Care Center in Lenox, where he had resided since May 2006.
Born in Huntington on Oct. 6, 1926, son of Raymond T. and Lillian Pero Ronan, he lived in Dalton as a child and was educated in local schools.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving from Oct. 31, 1945, to Jan. 9, 1947. He was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal.
Mr. Ronan was employed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in building maintenance for the National Guard Armory in Pittsfield. He retired in 1988 with 36 years of service.
He was a member of the Dalton VFW, and enjoyed camping and watching golf.
His wife, the former Charlotte E. Hatch, whom he married Sept. 18, 1948, died Oct. 13, 2000.
He leaves a son, Raymond T. Ronan of Pittsfield; five daughters, Catherine Drake of Dalton, Betty Menatti, Joann Squires and Cheryl Handy, all of Pittsfield, and Patricia Knappe of Windsor; two sisters, Kathleen Woodger of Winter Park, Fla., and Carol Prew of Dalton; 12 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Bernard Raymond Ronan, who died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007, will be Saturday at 8:15 a.m. from DERY FUNERAL HOME. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. at St. Charles Church by the Rev. Peter A. Gregory, pastor.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Ronan may be made to HospiceCare in the Berkshires in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield.
Mr. Ronan was predeceased by a brother, John Ronan.
