Monica W. Holcomb, 82, formerly of Melbourne Place, died Tuesday at Springside of Pittsfield, where she had resided for six weeks.
Born in Pittsfield on March 24, 1924, daughter of Harold F. and Pearl Manning Wells, she was a 1941 graduate of Pittsfield High School.
She moved to Mississippi in 1968 and returned to Pittsfield in 1979.
Mrs. Holcomb was employed as a bookkeeper for General Electric Co., Berkshire Medical Center, the former Berkshire Life Insurance Co. and, while in Mississippi, for Howard Industries.
She was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church and enjoyed playing bridge and oil painting. While in Mississippi, she was involved with the Little Theater. As a child, she studied ballet and aspired to be a concert pianist, traveling weekly to New York for lessons.
Her husband, James E. Wells, whom she married Dec. 21, 1945, died Feb. 26, 2002.
She leaves three daughters, Anne H. Hunter of Goodyear, Ariz., Lynn M. Holcomb of Lenox and Beth L. Franzen of Westmoreland, N.H.; two sons, David J. Holcomb of Newbury, N.H., and Charles W. Holcomb of Nashua, N.H.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Monica Holcomb, who died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2007, will be conducted Saturday at 11 at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church by the Rev. Hannah Anderson, pastor. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery.
Calling hours will be tonight from 4 to 7 at WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to St. Stephen's Episcopal Church or to the Berkshire County Association for Retarded Citizens, both in care of the funeral home, 220 East St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
She was predeceased by three sisters and two brothers.
