Ervin T. Byrdy, 79, died Friday at Springside Nursing Home, where he had resided since April.
Born in Pittsfield on Nov. 19, 1927, son of Louis S. and Helen Miszczak Byrdy, he graduated from Pittsfield High School and, in 1953, from American International College.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving with the occupation forces in Berlin from 1945 to 1947.
An insurance adjuster for General Adjustment Bureau, Mr. Byrdy spent a brief period in the Pittsfield office before being transferred to Stratford, Conn., and then to Hartford, Conn. Besides covering regional insurance policies, he often was called upon to assist during national disasters.
His wife, the former Helen Plesche of Brooklyn, N.Y., whom he married in 1954, died in 1991.
He leaves a sister, Doris Byrdy Albrecht of Pittsfield, and two brothers, Edward L. Byrdy of Silver Spring, Md., and Dr. Harold S.R. Byrdy of Wilton, Conn.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Mr. Ervin T. Byrdy, who died Friday, Jan. 5, 2007, will be private and at the convenience of the family. WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 220 East St., Pittsfield, MA 01201, is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Byrdy also leaves two sisters-in-law, Anne Brewster Byrdy (Edward) and Paula Coughlin Byrdy (Harold); and three nephews and a grandnephew.
