Beatrice "Alice" Scelsi

Beatrice "Alice" Scelsi, 85, of 81 Maple Grove Drive died yesterday at Berkshire Medical Center.

Born in Woonsocket, R.I., on April 29, 1921, daughter of Edward and Helen Disceault Ducharme, she attended schools in Franklin and graduated from Franklin High School with the class of 1939, where she was a member of the women's basketball team.

She then graduated with a nursing degree from the former St. Luke's School of Nursing in Pittsfield in 1942.

Mrs. Scelsi was employed by St. Luke's Hospital as a maternity and labor room nurse and later at Berkshire Medical Center.

She was a longtime communicant of Sacred Heart Church, and was a member of the YMCA Swimming Club. She enjoyed cooking and gardening, and was a Boston Red Sox fan.

Her husband Michael J. Scelsi, whom she married June 13, 1943, in St. Mary's Church in Franklin, died July 20, 2000.

She leaves four daughters, Josephine "Joanne" Scott and Margaret Peck, both of Pittsfield, and Mary Ellen Sciortino and Christine Keilty, both of Stoneham; a sister, Rita Rice of Medway; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE --The funeral for Beatrice "Alice" Scelsi who died Monday, Jan. 8, 2007, will take place Thursday at 10:15 a.m. at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St., Pittsfield, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, Pittsfield.

Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are tomorrow from 4 to 7 p.m. Memorial donations are suggested for Sacred Heart Church through the funeral home.

She also leaves two grandchildren, Michael and Jennifer Scott; three great-grandchildren, Ethan, Ryan and Hannah; three sons-in-law, Robert G. Scott, Dr. Guy Sciortino and James Keilty. Thee brothers, Eugene, Raymond and Francis Ducharme, are deceased.
