Mary E. "Eleanor" Collins, 88, of 176 Columbus Ave. died Jan. 8 at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Springfield on Oct. 5, 1918, daughter of James F. and Helen O'Neill Flannery, she was educated in Springfield and Pittsfield Catholic schools, graduating in 1937 from St. Joseph's High School.
Primarily a homemaker, she was a crossing guard at the former Pomeroy School for many years and later worked as a salesperson at the former England Brothers Department store.
Mrs. Collins was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church and a former longtime communicant of St. Mark's Church.
Her husband, Francis G. Collins, whom she married Sept. 25, 1942, died Sept. 18, 1988.
She leaves a son, Daniel P. Collins of Boston; a daughter, Sharon A. Jones of Mill Valley, Calif.; and three grandchildren.
Two sons, Stephen F. Collins and Michael J. Collins, are deceased.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Mary E. "Eleanor" Collins, who died Monday, Jan. 8, 2007, in the presence of her children, will be celebrated on Wednesday at 9 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church by Monsignor Michael Shershanovich, pastor.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. At Mrs. Collins' request, there will be no calling hours. She also leaves three grandchildren, Kierith, Jonas and Allegra Jones of California, and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Francis G. Collins; a brother, James Flannery; and two sisters, Marguerite Coughlin and Ann Gertrude Norris. If friends desire, memorial donations may be made to Berkshire Visiting Nurses' Association in care of DEVANNY-CONDRON FUNERAL HOME.
