G. Dixon Scott

G. Dixon Scott, 89, of 38 Allengate Ave. died Monday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in Roodhouse, Ill., on Nov. 13, 1917, son of Frank and Ella Dixon Scott, he graduated from the University of Illinois, where he majored in business.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II, where he served as a chief warrant officer. He spent three years in the South Pacific.
The former publisher and vice president of Mart Magazine, Mr. Scott moved to Pittsfield in 1969 when the Buttenheim family relocated their publishing enterprise from New York City to the Berkshires. After Buttenheim sold out, Mr. Scott became the co-owner of the former Edgewood Motor Inn in Lenox.
Mr. Scott served on the board of directors of the Central Berkshire Chamber of Commerce.
He enjoyed golf, and was a member of the board of directors of the Country Club of Pittsfield, and was later a member of the Wahconah Country Club. He also enjoyed tennis and was a devoted fan of the New York Jets.
His first wife, the former Elvie Nichols of Dallas, whom he married in 1945, is deceased.
His wife, the former Kazuko Kitamura of Tokyo, whom he married in 1970, died Jan. 6, 2003.
Mr. Scott leaves a daughter, Katherine Graves of Bronxville, N.Y., and a granddaughter.
A son, Richard Scott, died in 2003.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for G. Dixon Scott, who died Monday, Jan. 15, 2007, will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. from DERY FUNERAL HOME, by the Rev. William D. Furey, pastor of Berkshire Union Chapel.
Calling hours will precede, beginning at 10 a.m. Following cremation, burial will be in Fernwood Cemetery in Roodhouse, Ill. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Scott may be made to St. Mark Church's Meals on Wheels program in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield.
Mr. Scott also leaves his granddaughter, Kelly Graves, a law student at New York University.
