Floyd L. Peronto

Floyd L. Peronto, 81, of 66 Unkamet Drive died yesterday at Berkshire Medical Center.
He moved to Pittsfield in 1953 and to Unkamet Drive in 1966.
Born in Two Rivers, Wis., on June 27, 1925, son of Francis and Lucy Chalupsky Peronto, he was a 1943 graduate of Two Rivers High School and received a bachelor's in electrical engineering in 1950 from the University of Wisconsin and a master's in business administration from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1979.
Mr. Peronto was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, serving as a first lieutenant navigator for the 11th Combat Cargo Squadron in the China-Burma-India theater.
For 35 years, he was employed by General Electric Co. as an electrical engineer in the power transformer engineering and marketing divisions. In 1956, he represented the power transformer department as a transformer specialist in Indianapolis. At the time of his retirement in 1985, he was manager of renewal parts, sales and engineering.
He was a communicant of St. Agnes' Church in Dalton and a former longtime communicant of St. Francis' Church in Pittsfield, where he served as a eucharistic minister and as a member of the parish council.
He was also a member of the latters' Holy Name Society and senior choir. He was active in the Bishop's Annual Catholic Appeal, serving as a fund-drive treasurer.
He was a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners' clubs and the Berkshire Hillsmen chorus of the Barbershop Harmony Society, formerly the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America, where he served as a past president, secretary, show chairman, logopedics chairman, treasurer and board member for many years.
In 1985, he received the Outstanding Barbershopper of the Year Award. He also served as an instructor for Literacy Volunteers and participated in reading for the blind. He enjoyed skiing, play golf and traveling, and was a fan of the Green Bay Packers.
He and his wife, the former Joan Wiseman, were married Aug. 25, 1951, in Madison, Wis.
Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Mark W. Peronto of Claremont, Calif., and James R. Peronto of North Hollywood, Calif.; four daughters, Nancy A. Hipps of East Flat Rock, N.C., Jane E. Cummings Carlson of Cross Plains, Wis., Marjorie L. Peronto of Ellsworth, Maine, and Amy C. Peronto of Dalton; two sisters, Dorothy Grall of Reedsville, Wis., and Joyce Gunther of Manitowoc, Wis.; and seven grandchildren. A daughter, Mary Kathryn Peronto of Charlotte, N.C., died Oct. 18, 1993.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Floyd L. Peronto, who died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2007, will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 at St. Agnes' Church in Dalton by the Rev. Christopher Malatesta, pastor.
A private burial service will take place at a later date in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be tomorrow from 4 to 6 at DERY FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield.
Mr. Peronto also was predeceased by a brother, Francis Peronto, in 2006. Memorial donations in memory of Mr. Peronto may be made to the Catholic Relief Fund, in care of the funeral home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, MA 01201.
