Jane A. Broyles

Jane A. Broyles, 88, a native of Pittsfield, died Thursday at Good Shepherd Home in Jaffrey, N.H., after a long illness.
Born on Sept. 23, 1918, daughter of Clement and Evelyn Robillard Menard, she was stricken with a crippling bone disease at a young age that rendered her unable to walk. At age 12, she had surgery at Shriners' Hospital and was again able to walk. A year later, she swam 1 1/2 miles across Pontoosuc Lake.
She graduated in 1939 from Pittsfield High School, where was secretary for her class.
Mrs. Broyles moved to Peterborough, N.H., in 1956 and opened Jack and Jill Nursery School, which she operated until 1965.
She leaves two sons, Joseph C. Broyles of Wilton, N.H., and Donald Broyles of Eau Claire, Wis.; two daughters, Mary Jane Lambert of Peterborough and Margaret Day of Edgewater, Md.; her former husband, Joseph E. Broyles of Peterborough; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- There will be no calling hours for Jane A. Broyles, who died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated tomorrow at 11 at St. Patrick's Church, 89 Main St., Jaffrey, N.H.
Interment will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery on Sand Hill Road in Peterborough. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shriners' Hospital, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104 and/or Good Shepherd Home, 20 Plantation Drive, Jaffrey, NH 03452.
