Frederick J. Hoffman II, 84, formerly of 38 Prospect St., died Thursday at Hillcrest Commons.
Born in Chatham, N.Y., on Dec. 4, 1922, son of Frederick J. Hoffman Sr. and Julia Blackwell Hoffman, he attended public schools in Chatham and Pittsfield.
Mr. Hoffman was a veteran of World War II, having served in France and Germany. He was awarded the European, African, Middle Eastern and American Theater Campaign Ribbons, as well as the Victory Medal.
He was retired from the Eaton Paper Company of Pittsfield, where he had worked for 40 years until they closed in 1985.
Mr. Hoffman was a member of the VFW. He especially enjoyed dancing, parades and fairs, as well as camping and gardening.
He leaves three sons, Frederick J. Hoffman III of Clearwater, Fla., Arthur B. Hoffman of Hillsdale, N.Y., and Dr. Eric J. Hoffman of Windsor, Conn.; two daughters, Judith Adornetto of Pittsfield and Nanette J. Palko of Port Jervis, N.Y.; and 13 grandchildren. He also leaves his longtime friend and companion, Ms. Mary Arpante and her family, of Pittsfield.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service for Frederick J. Hoffman II, who died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2007, will be held in the spring. WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME, 220 East St., Pittsfield, MA 01201, is in charge of arrangements.
